Russian wheelchair fencing championship started in the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan

From 16 to 23 June in Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan) at the R. A. Batalova Sports Training Centre the Russian Wheelchair Fencing Championship took place.

105 athletes from 15 regions were fighting for medals. The strongest Paralympic fencers of the country, including champions and medallists of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo Alexander Kuzyukov, Maxim Shaburov, Albert Yusupov, Lyudmila Vasilyeva, are taking part in the competition, Victoria Boikova, Nikita Nagaev, world and European champions Roman Fedyaev, Nikolay Lukyanov, Alexander Logutenko, Evgenia Sycheva, Albert Kamalov, Alexander Kurzin, Sergey Barinov, Dmitry Belyaev, Albina Davylatova, Irina Mishurova.

On the first day of the tournament men epee fencers and women foil fencers played for individual championship awards.

In men's A category Maxim Shaburov won again, having beaten Roman Fedyaev. In category B Oleg Sukhoteply won silver, losing to Alexander Kurzin. In category C Dmitry Belyaev defeated Alexander Kuritsky.

Women foil fencers in categories A and B were dominated by the capital's athletes. In category A Evgenia Sycheva beat Anna Klimenkova, Victoria Tikhonova and Albina Davlatova took bronze. In category B Lyudmila Vasilyeva defeated Irina Mishurova.
