Table tennis was first included in the program of the I Paralympic Summer Games in 1960. Athletes with musculoskeletal impairments and intellectual disabilities compete in two categories – sitting (Classes 1–5) and standing (Classes 6–10). Men and women compete individually, in doubles, and in teams. The Paralympic program includes competitions in both singles and doubles events. A match consists of five games, each played to 11 points. The winner is the athlete or pair that wins three out of five games. At the XVII Paralympic Summer Games in Paris (France), Russian table tennis players won silver and bronze medals.
