Russian para-cyclists win 6 medals at the World Cup in Thailand

From March 14 to 24, the World Cup in Paracycling was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Russian para-athletes won a total of 6 medals based on their performances: athletes with physical impairments won 4 medals, while athletes with visual impairments won 2 medals.

Results of athletes with physical impairments:

Individual time trial (17 km):

  • 1st place — Ivan Ermakov (C1 class)
  • 2nd place — Alexander Davidovich (H5 class)

Road race (6 laps of 8.4 km):

  • 2nd place — Ivan Ermakov (C1 class)
  • 2nd place — Alexander Davidovich (H5 class)

Results of athletes with visual impairments:

Individual road race (25.1 km):

  • 3rd place — Kirill Kiyski and pilot Sergey Kirsanov
  • 3rd place — Marina Danilova and pilot Darya Gordeeva

Cycling was first included in the program of the VII Paralympic Summer Games in 1984 in New York and Stoke Mandeville. The competitions feature athletes with cerebral palsy, amputations, and other physical impairments, as well as athletes with visual impairments. Races are held on bicycles, tricycles, tandems, and handbikes. At the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo (Japan), Mikhail Astashov won 2 gold medals and Ruslan Kuznetsov won 1 gold medal.
