Russian National Team Wins 19 Medals at Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunisia

From June 16 to 19, the Grand Prix stage in para athletics was held in Tunisia.

Following the competition, the Russian national team won 19 medals: 7 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze.

Athletics for Athletes with Physical Impairments (PODA)

Anton Feoktistov (Astrakhan Region) won a gold medal in the 400m race and a silver medal in the 100m race in class T37.

Nikita Dubenchuk (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra) became a silver medalist in shot put in class F34.

Bronze medals were awarded to Evgeny Demin (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra) in club throw in class F31, and Ekaterina Belyaninova (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra) in the 100m race in class T44.

Athletics for Athletes with Visual Impairments

Alexander Kostin (Altai Krai) won 2 gold medals in the 5000m and 1500m races in class T12.

Egor Gostinsky (Moscow) took the top step of the podium in the 100m race in class T13.

Fedor Rudakov (Perm Krai) and his guide runner Anton Kulyatin won 2 silver medals – in the 5000m (class T11) and the 1500m (class T12).

Athletics for Athletes with Intellectual Impairments

In shot put in class F20, Alexandra Zaitseva (Kostroma Region) won a gold medal.

In the 1500m race in class T20, Vladilen Voloshin (Omsk Region – Chelyabinsk Region), Kirill Kirikov (Nizhny Novgorod Region), and Maxim Angelov (Nizhny Novgorod Region) swept the entire podium.

In the 400m race in class T20, Victoria Tsepilova (Sverdlovsk Region) won silver, while Natalia Sainchina (Moscow Region) and Sergey Makarov (Ryazan Region) took bronze.

In the long jump in class T20, Irina Sapanzha (Krasnodar Krai) won a gold medal, and Valentina Stepanenkova (Lipetsk Region) won silver.

Athletics is one of the most popular and medal-rich sports in the Paralympic movement. Competitions include track and field disciplines for athletes with various types of impairments (physical, visual, and intellectual impairments). At the XVII Summer Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris, Russian track and field athletes placed 2nd in the unofficial medal standings, winning 27 medals: 11 gold, 6 silver, and 10 bronze.
