The First All-Russian Athletics Competitions for Athletes with Physical Impairments Among Veterans of the Special Military Operation Have Concluded in Cheboksary
The first All-Russian athletics competitions for athletes with physical impairments among veterans of the special military operation have concluded at the Olympic Stadium in Cheboksary.
The competitions brought together more than 130 participants from 28 regions of the Russian Federation and the team of the Central Sports Club of the Army. Among the athletes were winners of the 2026 Russian Championship, special military operation veterans Sergei Anisimov, Vladislav Losev, and Vadim Shamsitdinov, as well as members of the Russian national athletics team for athletes with physical impairments.
President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov summarized the results of the competitions:
"The Russian Paralympic Committee, with the support of its partners, has previously held competitions for special military operation veterans in shooting, sitting volleyball, sledge hockey, as well as multi-sport events. Today, the first competitions in the most medal-rich Paralympic sport — athletics — have come to an end. It is very encouraging that they turned out to be so representative, and that a number of athletes demonstrated a level of preparation comparable to the top ten of the recently concluded national championship. Among the track-and-field athletes who are SMO veterans, there are already Russian champions, Russian record holders, and members of the national team. I am confident that their participation as part of the Russian team in international competitions and their resounding victories are only a matter of time."
Over the course of two competition days, awards were contested in running and technical events. Participants competed in various distances, jumps, throws, and other program disciplines. A total of 20 sets of medals were awarded. The prize fund of the competitions exceeded 4 million rubles: winners received 100,000 rubles each, silver medalists received 75,000 rubles each, and bronze medalists received 50,000 rubles each.
The winner of the team standings among the constituent entities was the Moscow team, which claimed 4 gold medals.
In second place, with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, was the team from the Lipetsk Region. Third place was shared by the teams from Saint Petersburg and the Udmurt Republic, each with 2 gold medals.

The ceremonial award ceremony and closing were attended by: Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Chuvash Republic Vladimir Stepanov; First Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Vice-President of the RPC, Chairman of the Council of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments, and Hero of Russia Vyacheslav Bocharov; Vice-President of the RPC, President of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for the Blind, and three-time Paralympic champion in athletics for the visually impaired Olga Semyonova; member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports and 13-time Paralympic champion in athletics for the visually impaired Rima Batalova; member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy and Olympic fencing champion Evgenia Lamonova; Head of the Department of Sports Medicine of the FMBA of Russia Ilya Morozov; Director General of the National Center for Sports Medicine of the FMBA of Russia Evgeny Koshevoy; Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Chuvash Republic Alexander Stepanov; and Senior Coach of the Russian national athletics team for athletes with physical impairments and Honored Coach of Russia Alexandra Antonova.
Based on the results of the competitions, 20 athletes who demonstrated high sporting achievements will be invited to a training camp at the federal sports base of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, "Yug Sport," in Sochi, with the participation of coaches and athletes from the Russian national team.
The competitions were organized by the Russian Paralympic Committee with the support of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Russian Sports Fund, and the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Chuvash Republic.
