Table tennis was first included in the program of the I Paralympic Summer Games in 1960. Athletes with physical impairments (locomotor disabilities) and intellectual impairments compete in two categories — wheelchair (classes 1–5) and standing (classes 6–10). Men and women compete individually, in doubles, and in team events. The Paralympic program includes individual and doubles competitions. A match consists of five games, each played to 11 points, and the winner is the athlete or pair that wins three out of five games. At the XVII Paralympic Summer Games in Paris, France, Russian table tennis players won silver and bronze medals.
