5 RUSSIAN ATHLETES ARE GOING TO COMPETE AT JAPAN PI&II TABLE TENNIS OPEN
From August 1st to 3rd, Tokyo will open their doors for best PI (physical impairment) and II (intellectual impairment) athletes from entire world.
180 athletes from 23 countries will participate in the championships
Russian Federation will be represented by 5 athletes, 3 in PI and 2 in II categories:Malyak Alieva (Saratov Oblast)
Victoria Safonova (Republic of Crimea/Moscow)
Yuriy Nozdrunov (Orlov Oblast/Moscow Oblast)
Elena Prokofyeva (Republic of Bashkortostan)
Andjelika Kosacheva (Saratov Oblast)
Table tennis was included to Paralympic sports program back in 1960, I Games in Tokyo. Participants of PI&II classes divide into two categories- sitting (1-5 class) and standing (6-10 class). Men and Women compete individually, as well as in pairs. At Paralympic Games, there are two types of table tennis events—individual and team. Each game consists of five sets and is played according to “Best of 5” format. Next year in Tokyo, PI athletes will compete for 29 medal sets and II athletes- for 2 sets.
