THE RUSSIAN PARA CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIP AMONG PI ATHLETES WILL BE HELD IN KRASNODAR TERRITORY

09 April 2021

The All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments will hold the Russian Para Cycling Championship.

Competitions will be held in Arkhipo-Osipovka, Krasnodar Territory. 40 athletes from 13 regions of the country will take part.

On April 9, the hand bike relay will take place, on April 10, the individual races will take place, and on April 11, the winners of the group races will be determined.

Senior coach of the Russian National Para Cycling Team for PI Athletes, Honored coach of Russia Ekaterina Mukhortova:

“This sports season the Russian championship will take place quite early, so the Krasnodar Territory has become the venue.

In Arkhipo-Osipovka, we are holding a national championship for the first time. Group races will take place along the city streets, and everyone will be able to watch our athletes.

Previously, the holding of the national championship is primarily associated with an extensive competitive program in 2021, which begins at the beginning of May (from 6 to 9) with the World Cup in Belgium. It is on it that the qualification for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo will be completed.

As a result of the Russian championship, we will decide on the composition of the national team and begin preparations for the World Cup.

There was another qualifying World Cup in Italy on the international calendar, but it was canceled due to the pandemic.

At the moment, Russia has won one male and one female license to participate in the Games. The rest of the quotas will be distributed according to the rating after June 6, 2021.

The European Championships will take place from June 3 to 6 in Austria and the World Championships from June 9 to 13 in Portugal.

I believe that further targeted preparations for the Tokyo Games will begin. After the final determination of the composition of the national team for the Games, we plan to hold training events in Bulgaria or Italy”.
