Today, March 19, at the VTB Arena, the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin held a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Sports of Russia.

The meeting was held in a mixed format - in person, as well as with the use of video conference calls.

The board considered the issue of the final stage of preparation of the sports teams of the Russian Federation for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo (Japan).

The meeting participants discussed the creation of conditions for physical culture and sports in the regions of the country, as well as improving the system of training and retraining of personnel in the field of physical culture and sports.

Chairperson of the Governing Board, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, chief of the mission of the Russian national team at the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo (Japan) Pavel Rozhkov reported on the final stage of preparation of the national teams of the Russian Federation for the XVI Paralympic Summer Games "Tokyo-2020 ".

In his speech, he noted:

“In view of the postponement of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo for one year, adjustments to the sports results of the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, shown, among other things, by “new” promising athletes, the RPC Governing Board approved on March 5 an updated extended list of candidates for the Russian Paralympic Delegation for the upcoming Games. It included 710 people, including 422 athletes.

It is planned that the composition of the Russian Paralympic delegation to the Tokyo Games can be up to 470 people, including up to 270 athletes. However, a reduction is also possible due to the cancellation of qualifying competitions and the early closure of international rankings.

Until August 2, the RPC Governing Board will approve the composition of the Russian Paralympic team for the Tokyo Games.

On August 3, the International Paralympic Committee will confirm the RPC's compliance of Russian athletes with the criteria for participation in the Games, including the fulfillment of anti-doping testing requirements.

In the final stage of preparation for the XVI Paralympic Games in Tokyo, more than 400 athletes from the national teams of the Russian Federation will take part. Training events will be held at 14 sports bases: in Moscow, Moscow, Sakhalin and Tula regions, the Republic of Buryatia, Primorsky Territory, as well as Bulgaria and the Netherlands. They will begin on July 16 with a powerlifting training event in Aleksin. And it will end on August 29 with the departure of the parataekwondo team to the Games in Tokyo.

At the final training camp, the RPC will hold information seminars for all teams on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19, anti-doping support at the Games and the climatic and geographical features of Tokyo, and also plans to equip the main part of the team with general equipment.

At the moment, the RPC is working on various options for the ceremonial farewell of the Russian delegation to the Games - the traditional option - on Poklonnaya Gora, the format of a teleconference, etc.

The RPC has formed a schedule for the flight of teams to Tokyo for the Paralympic Games and back, taking into account the requirements of the IPC and the Games Organizing Committee for the period of stay in the Paralympic Village.

We are currently negotiating with the IPC to agree on an earlier arrival and later departure of some teams and athletes to organize charter flights.

The first group of administrative staff of the team (7 people) will arrive in Tokyo on August 14th. The official opening of the Paralympic Village will take place on August 17, and the main part of the delegation will arrive on August 18.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the Paralympic Village welcome and flag-raising ceremony has been canceled. The meeting with the Mayor of the Village will be limited.

The opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games will be held on August 24, August 25 - the first day of the competition.

The closing ceremony of the Games will take place on September 5.

We are in constant contact with the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee and the responsible officials of the IPC on all issues related to the participation of the Russian delegation in the Games, including accreditation, accommodation, meals, transport, flight and cargo logistics, medical support, training, etc."

More than 300 people took part in the event, including the Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Boris Paikin, Deputy Head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency Yulia Miroshnikova, heads of all-Russian sports federations, physical culture and sports organizations and regional executive authorities in the field of physical culture and sports.
