THE IPC WORLD SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE HELD IN THE UAE IN NOVEMBER 2022
The eighth World Shooting Championships of the International Paralympic Committee will be held in Al Ain, UAE in November 2022.
This competition will be held in the Middle East for the first time. By the way, this is the third World Cup to be held in Asia. Previously, the World Cup was hosted by South Korea-Seoul in 2002 and Cheongju in 2018.
The venue for the 2022 World Cup will be the Al Ain Sports Club. This club is familiar to many athletes since 2015. It hosts the IPC Shooting World Cups.
The facility has also hosted many international bullet shooting competitions for able-bodied athletes, including the 2019 World Cup Final in Bench Shooting and the 2014 Asian Bench Shooting Championships.
Tyler Anderson, Senior Manager, World Rifle Para Sports:
"This news is fantastic for the IPC's shooting, as Al Ain will host the first ever World Cup in the Middle East. This will be the first major event after the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and an important step towards the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The Al Ain Sports Club and the Zaid Organization for People with Disabilities have been important partners in the sport for almost a decade and have earned a reputation as good competition organizers. We are very happy to give the UAE the opportunity to host the World Cup in Al Ain in 2022."
Abdullah Alkamali, executive Director of the Zaid Organization for People with Disabilities, said:
"It is a great honor for us to host the 2022 World Championships in Al Ain with the hope that the world will become safer and that all athletes will be able to compete successfully. We have been cooperating with the World Para-Sport Shooting Federation for many years. We are very happy to host this event. The UAE is a very hospitable country, where 200 nationalities live in harmony. We will be happy to welcome the best athletes from all over the world to compete in Al Ain for the world champion titles."
The last World Cup was held in Sydney, Australia, in 2019, with 283 athletes from 55 countries participating.
This was the first World Championship to combine the disciplines of rifle, pistol and bench shooting, and also included disciplines for athletes with visual impairments (VI).
