TASS: RPC recommends candidates to the Russian Paralympic Team get COVID-19 vaccination

MOSCOW, March 30. / TASS /. The Governing Board of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) recommended that candidates to the Russian Paralympic team at the Tokyo Paralympic Games undergo the COVID-19 vaccination procedure organized by the FMBA of Russia. The Chairman of the RPC Governing Board, the First Vice-president Pavel Rozhkov told TASS about this.

"This decision was made at a meeting of the Governing Board of the Russian Paralympic Committee, - said Rozhkov. - The final decision on vaccination remains with the athlete or athlete's personnel. Vaccination is not included in the list of mandatory requirements for participation in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, however, the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic the committee is asked to make every effort to ensure that the majority of the members of the delegation are vaccinated".

"In some sports, the qualifying period will last until mid-summer. The vaccine will help athletes and athlete personnel minimize the risk of getting infected by coronavirus when participating in international competitions and final training events for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo," Rozhkov said.

Tokyo Paralympic Games were supposed to be held from August 25 to September 6, 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, Games were postponed for a year and will take place from August 24 to September 5.
