TASS: LUKIN STATED THAT IS DISCUSSING THE POSSIBILITY OF LEAVING THE RUSSIAN PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE
MOSCOW, March 19. / TASS /. President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) Vladimir Lukin is discussing the possibility of leaving his post. Lukin told this to reporters.
According to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the dispute between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), Russian athletes cannot participate in major international competitions, including world championships, under the flag of Russia until December 16, 2022. The use of the national anthem and national emblem prohibited. Russian officials, including the president and prime minister of the country, members of the State Duma, representatives of the Russia’s Presidential Executive office and various federal ministries and agencies, are prohibited from holding leadership positions in any international sports federations for two years. Lukin - Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, a representative from the executive branch of state power in the Tver Region.
"There is no deadline, there is a court decision. We are in the process of discussing and clarifying, agreeing on the decision, including with international authorities. The main thing is that it does not harm the athletes and their preparation for the Games. Everything that needs to be done in terms of the CAS decision, we will do it" - Lukin said.
Lukin has been the president of the RPC since 1997. The World Anti-Doping Code is signed by the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, International Federations, National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, organizers of major sporting events, and national anti-doping organizations. All signatories are obliged, first of all, to comply with the CAS decision on WADA's claim against RUSADA.
