TASS: AVTANDIL BARAMIDZE, HEAD COACH OF THE RUSSIAN PARALYMPIC CP FOOTBALL TEAM PASSED AWAY

MOSCOW, September 27. /TASS/. Avtandil Baramidze, head coach of the Russian Paralympic CP Football Team passed away at the age of 65. Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) told TASS on Tuesday.

The cause of death was a heart attack.

"We are shocked by what happened, he was in Sochi, preparing the team for the performance at the summer Games," Rozhkov said. - It became bad with his heart, he was hospitalized, doctors fought for his life, but unfortunately, he was gone. I've just learnt about it, we send our condolences to his family and the Russian Paralympic Committee will provide all necessary assistance. He got into the Paralympic sport when he once came as a postgraduate student of the All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute of Physical Culture to teach the children of the correctional school. Our players under his leadership became world champions four times.

Baramidze was a member of the Governing Board of the Russian Paralympic Committee and President of the All-Russian CP Football Football Federation. Under his leadership, the Russian national team has twice become the Paralympic champion, twice won silver medals at the Paralympic Games and once won bronze. Russian players have also won four World Championships and won gold at the European Championships.
