Participant of the 2014 and 2018 Winter Paralympic Games, three-time silver medalist of the 2016 European Athletics Championships in wheelchair racing Akzhana Abdikarimova will take part in the elections to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) athletes council. Pavel Rozhkov, acting president of the Russian Paralympic Committee, told TASS.
"The International Paralympic Committee has published a list of candidates for the athletes' council," Rozhkov said. - There are eight athletes claiming three seats on the council. Akzhana Abdikarimova, three-time silver medalist of the European Athletics Championships in wheelchair racing and a member of the Russian Paralympic Nordic skiing and biathlon team, was nominated from the Russian Paralympic Committee. The candidates will be chosen by athletes who will take part in the Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing."
"Abdikarimova's candidacy was approved by the RPC Governing Board after preliminary consultations with the head coaches of the Russian national teams for Paralympic winter sports," Rozhkov said. - To be eligible for the IPC Athletes Council, candidates must meet certain criteria, such as high English proficiency and being an active athlete or participant in the Sochi or PyeongChang Winter Games, which Akzhana fully meets.
Elections to the IPC Athletes Council will be held during the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing.
