RUSSIAN PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE HELD FIRST INTERNATIONAL POWERLIFTING COMPETITION FOR COMBAT VETERANS
The Russian Paralympic Committee held the first international powerlifting competition for combat veterans with physical impairments. The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and the Russian Sports Fund.

The first international powerlifting competition for combat veterans with physical impairments, organized by the Russian Paralympic Committee, concluded in Moscow. The event was supported by the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and the Russian Sports Fund.
On August 8 and 9, the Cosmos Selection Moscow Vnukovo Sport hotel hosted intense competition for 5 sets of medals among representatives from 10 countries: Armenia, Vietnam, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, India, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Russia.
The foreign teams comprised combat veterans, members of national teams, and participants of World Championships, Continental Championships, and the World Games.
The Russian team was represented by veterans of the Special Military Operation who secured 1st to 5th place in powerlifting at the interregional "Defenders of the Fatherland Cup" competitions held across all federal districts from February 2024 to July 3, 2026. Among them were Russian Championship medalists Timur Guseynov, Alexander Pashkov, and Ivan Solomichev.
During the official closing ceremony, the participants were addressed by Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee; João Kennedy de Pina Araújo, Secretary General of the Paralympic Committee of Guinea-Bissau; and Elena Makhrova, Vice President of Commercial Activities and Marketing at Cosmos Hotel Group.
Pavel Rozhkov noted the high level of athletic performance and competition, expressing confidence that this international tournament would become a traditional event attracting an increasing number of athletes:
"You have undoubtedly demonstrated all your skill, character, fortitude, and will to win. Special congratulations to the winners and medalists. I am confident that these competitions, organized by the Russian Paralympic Committee with the support of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation and the Russian Sports Fund, will become traditional, and we will meet annually, bringing together the best athletes from various countries," said the head of the RPC.
The award ceremony for winners and medalists was also attended by Stepan Kuzmenkov, Deputy Director of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Ties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia; Evgeny Pershin, Deputy Director for Adaptive and Non-Olympic Sports at the Sports Training Center for Russian National Teams of the Ministry of Sport; Dmitry Krasilnikov, Head Coach of the Russian National Powerlifting Team and Honored Coach of Russia; Pavel Tots, Chief Physician of the National Center for Sports Medicine of the FMBA of Russia; Ivan Potekhin, Vice President of the Russian Paralympic Committee and Paralympic Champion; Pavel Pak, Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Russian National Guard; Inna Filimonova, Honored Master of Sports and multiple World and European Powerlifting Champion; Kirill Flegentov, Head of the Russian National Powerlifting Team, European Championship bronze medalist, and Master of Sports of Russia; and Isa Suleiman, Secretary General of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria.
Based on the competition results, Russian athletes who placed in the prize-winning positions were awarded cash certificates. First-place finishers received 100,000 rubles, second-place finishers received 75,000 rubles, and third-place finishers received 50,000 rubles.
