On September 1, a meeting between Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC), and Barry Hendricks, President of the Olympic and Paralympic Committee of the Republic of South Africa, took place at the RPC office.

The parties discussed matters of cooperation in the development of the Paralympic movement between sports organizations of Russia and the Republic of South Africa, as well as current issues of the international Paralympic movement.

During the meeting, Pavel Rozhkov and Barry Hendricks signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Russian Paralympic Committee and the South African Sports Confederation, Olympic and Paralympic Committee, which will be ratified by the organization's board.

The memorandum is aimed at comprehensive development of cooperation in Paralympic sports, including matters related to the training of specialists, athlete support, exchange of best practices for involving persons with disabilities in sports, and conducting educational events.

"The Russian Paralympic Committee is actively working to expand opportunities for bilateral cooperation, and the signing of the memorandum fully aligns with this objective. We thank the National Paralympic Committee of the Republic of South Africa for its support at the General Assembly meetings of the International Paralympic Committee. Sport should unite people and remain outside of politics. For us, this remains one of the key areas of work, which we openly pursue with interested parties and intend to continue developing. I am confident that joint projects in various fields of the Paralympic movement lie ahead of us," said Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

"The signing of today's document is evidence of the intentions of our parties to expand and deepen partnership on the most pressing issues of the international and bilateral sports agenda. Today we are laying the foundation on which we will jointly build our future victories. So, the next step will be the approval and acceptance by our board and General Assembly of our organisation on the implementation of the agreements reached. We are confident that sport, and especially para-sports, should serve as a bridge between nations and strengthen international cooperation"

The signing of the agreement took place with the assistance of the international platform for practical cooperation "African Centre" (Africa Centrum).

Special attention during the meeting was given to cooperation in the development of Paralympic sports, exchange of experience, joint sports and educational events, as well as expanding interaction between athletes and sports organizations of the two countries.

Pavel Rozhkov and Barry Hendricks emphasized the importance of further developing international sports contacts and strengthening cooperation in order to promote Paralympic sports and create new opportunities for athletes.

The meeting was also attended by Vladimir Lukin, Honorary President of the Russian Paralympic Committee; Andrey Strokin, Secretary General of the Russian Paralympic Committee, President of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments, and 5-time Paralympic champion; and Olga Semenova, Vice-President of the RPC, President of the All-Russian Federation of Blind Sports, and 3-time Paralympic champion.
