10 February 2022
BEIJING, February 10. /TASS/. Russian snowboarders and alpine skiers will hold the final training camp on Sakhalin before the Paralympic Games in Beijing. Pavel Rozhkov, Acting President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) told TASS.
"In connection with the difficult epidemiological situation and the requirements of regulations to ensure sanitary and epidemiological well-being during the training activities of the final stage of preparation of Russian sports teams for the XIII Paralympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing, we were forced to make changes to the final stage of preparation for the Games. Snowboard and Alpine skiing teams for VI athletes, who previously planned to hold a training camp in the Chelyabinsk region, will be trained in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the sports and tourist complex "Mountain air" together with the Alpine skiing team for PI athletes. This will reduce the risk of coronavirus infection both during the training camp and on the charter flight to the Beijing Paralympic Games," Rozhkov said.
"Also in order to minimize contacts of members of the Paralympic team before the Games and the need to comply with measures aimed at preserving the health of members of the Russian delegation, the RPC together with the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments and the Blind Sports Federation made a decision to postpone the Russian championships in Para Alpine Skiing for PI and VI athletes and in Para Snowboard. Competitions will take place after the Paralympic Games", - added Rozhkov.
The Paralympic Games will be held in Beijing from March 4 to 13.
