PRESIDENT OF THE NPC BELARUS OLEG SHEPEL IN HIS INTERVIEW TO THE PRESS SERVICE OF THE RPC NOTED THAT THE ATHLETES LIKED TO PERFORM IN THE SOCHI ARENA OF THE SUMMER GAMES FOR PARA ATHLETES "WE ARE TOGETHER. SPORT".
In Sochi from October 2 till October 9 International complex sport competitions "Summer Games for Para Athletes "We are together. Sport" were held.
The national team of the Republic of Belarus was represented by 59 athletes who took part in the competitions in athletics, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair fencing, draughts, taekwondo and CP football. The team won 25 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals and became second in the unofficial team event.
The President of the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Shepel in his interview to the press-service of the RPC summed up the results of the national team performance at the competitions:
"We are grateful to Russia, which organized such wonderful competitions at the Black Sea resort. These competitions are a great form of rehabilitation and self-fulfillment for our athletes who are currently practically deprived of the opportunity to compete against their opponents. That's why we so eagerly accepted the invitation to take part in these international competitions, in which representatives of different countries compete.
I think that in general the organizers managed to cope with the difficult task of preparing the arenas, which are in a good condition. In general, the level of judging met all the requirements, although there were some mistakes, for example, at the beginning of the athletics events. It can be attributed to the fact that the competition was really representative and with a large number of athletes.
As for food and accommodation, we had no complaints about their organization. Food was delicious and varied, hotel rooms were comfortable. At first there were some difficulties with the organization of transportation, but later they were completely resolved.
Our athletes enjoyed competing in Sochi. In the team classification we took the second place, following the hosts, which we consider to be a good result. Belarusian athletes are always eager to take part in open competitions held in Russia. We intend to respond to all the offers of the hospitable Russians in the future.
The Paralympic Committees of Russia and Belarus work together seriously. Our country has held open championships in swimming and athletics with a large number of Russian Paralympians. We are getting ready for the competitions in winter sports. I'm sure our athletes will have enough competitions.
