PAVEL ROZHKOV TAKES PART IN THE IWAS EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE
Chairperson of the Executive Committee, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Vice-President of the IWAS Pavel Rozhkov took part in the IWAS Executive Committee meeting via video conference call.
The meeting was chaired by IWAS President Rudi van den Abbeele.
The meeting discussed the organization and holding of regional wheelchair fencing championships, including the European Championship scheduled for May 12-18, 2021 in Hungary, the Guttmann Games in 2021, the Wheelchair Hockey World Championship in 2022, and The IWAS World Wheelchair and Amputee Games and the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Sochi from October 2 to October 9, 2022, etc.
The next meeting of the IWAS Executive Committee will take place on April 6, also in the format of a video conference call.
The IWAS World Games and the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup will be held from October 2 to October 9, 2022 in Sochi in seven sports: fencing (World Cup), athletics, swimming, archery, table tennis, badminton, seated volleyball (men, women). It is planned that up to 970 people will take part in the competition, including about 746 athletes and 224 officials from 40 countries of the world. The number of the Russian delegation is 274 people, including 211 athletes and 63 officials. Within the framework of the IWAS Games, the General Assembly of IWAS and a meeting of the IWAS Executive Committee will be held.
On October 4, 2019, at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for the organization and holding of international sports competitions on the territory of the Russian Federation, the approval of promising applications of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, a positive decision was made to hold the IWAS World Games in the city of Sochi (Krasnodar Territory).
On October 10, 2019 in Nizhny Novgorod (Nizhny Novgorod Region), within the framework of the International Forum "Russia is a Country of Sports" Pavel Rozhkov and Iwas President Rudy van del Abbeele signed a memorandum of cooperation in order to organize and conduct the IWAS World Games and other IWAS events in the Russian Federation , creation of conditions for athletes with impairment of the musculoskeletal system to achieve high sports results, the development and promotion of new sports for persons with impaired ODA in the Paralympic Games program and the creation of a doping-free sports environment for athletes-support athletes Also, a Contract was signed between IWAS and the All-Russian Federation of Sports of Persons with Disabilities of the Musculoskeletal System, as an organization representing the interests of IWAS on the territory of the Russian Federation, on the holding of the IWAS World Games.
The IWAS World Games are held every 2 years to identify the strongest athletes with musculoskeletal disorders. The first IWAS World Games took place in 1948. It is the second most important international sporting event after the Paralympic Games.
In 2015, for the first time on the territory of the Russian Federation, the IWAS World Games were held in Sochi. About 800 Paralympians from 34 countries took part in the competition. At the games, 213 sets of medals were played in 6 sports - athletics, swimming, archery, table tennis, para-taekwondo and armwrestling. After the Games, the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin met with the Russian team, which won 123 gold, 105 silver and 95 bronze medals and took the first team place.
