Parsons does not rule out that the Russian vaccine against COVID-19 will help the Paralympics take place – Sports

The creation of a coronavirus vaccine will help stop the coronavirus pandemic, which in turn will allow Tokyo to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games next year. This was stated in an interview with TASS by the President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Andrew Parsons.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo have been postponed to 2021. The Paralympics should begin exactly one year later – on August 24th.

“In the final quarter of this year, together with the IOC and the organizing committee, we plan to decide what additional measures need to be taken to combat COVID-19. Perhaps the Russian vaccine will help us with this,” Parsons said.

“I look at the situation positively, especially since the best minds of mankind are now working on a vaccine. I believe that on August 24 next year we will all celebrate the opening of the Paralympic Games,” he added.

Russia on August 11 was the first in the world to register a vaccine against coronavirus, it was named Sputnik V. The drug was developed by the Center. Gamalea and underwent clinical trials in June – July. On August 15, the Ministry of Health announced the start of production of the drug.

“A lot will depend on when the vaccines begin to appear en masse. If that happens in January, we may already be able to announce the Games. It all depends on the circumstances,” Parsons said.
