P. A. ROZHKOV TOOK PART IN THE MEETING OF THE IWAS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE VIA VIDEO-CONFERENCE CALL

Chairman of the Executive Committee, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Vice-President of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Federation (IWAS) Pavel Rozhkov took part in the IWAS Executive Committee meeting via video conference call.

The meeting was hosted by IWAS President Rudi Van del Abbeele.

The members of the Executive Committee discussed the organization and holding of the Gutman Games in 2021, the World Electric Wheelchair Hockey Championship in 2022, regional wheelchair fencing championships, including the European Championship scheduled for May 12-18, 2021 in Hungary, as well as current issues of organizing the World Wheelchair and Amputee Games IWAS and the World Wheelchair Fencing Cup in Sochi from October 2 to 9, 2022, etc.

The next meeting of the IWAS Executive Committee will be held on March 9, also in the format of a video conference call.

The IWAS World Games and the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup will be held from 2 to 9 October 2022 in Sochi in seven sports: fencing (World Cup), track and field, swimming, archery, table tennis, badminton, sitting volleyball (men, women). It is planned that up to 970 people will take part in the competition, including about 746 athletes and 224 officials from 40 countries. The Russian delegation consists of 274 people, including 211 athletes and 63 officials. The IWAS Games will include the IWAS General Assembly and the IWAS Executive Committee meeting.

On October 4, 2019, at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission for the Organization and Conduct of International Sports Competitions in the Russian Federation, Coordination of Prospective applications of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, a positive decision was made to hold the IWAS World Games in Sochi (Krasnodar Territory).

October 10, 2019 in Nizhny Novgorod (Nizhny Novgorod region) as part of the International Forum "Russia – Sports Power " Pavel Rozhkov and Iwas President Rudi van del Abbeele signed a memorandum of cooperation in order to organize and hold the IWAS World Games and other IWAS events in the Russian Federation, create conditions for athletes with musculoskeletal injuries to achieve high sports results, develop and promote new sports of persons with OCD injuries in the program of the Paralympic Games and create a doping-free sports environment for support athletes. A contract was also signed between IWAS and the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Musculoskeletal Disorders, as an organization representing the interests of IWAS in the Russian Federation, to host the IWAS World Games.

The IWAS World Games are held every 2 years to identify the strongest athletes with musculoskeletal disorders. The first IWAS World Games were held in 1948. This is the second most important international sports competition after the Paralympic Games.

In 2015, for the first time on the territory of the Russian Federation, the IWAS World Games were held in Sochi. About 800 Paralympians from 34 countries took part in the competition. At the Games, 213 sets of medals were awarded in 6 sports - athletics, swimming, archery, table tennis, parathaekwondo and armsport. After the Games, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Russian national team, which won 123 gold, 105 silver and 95 bronze medals and took the first team place.

The International Amputee and Wheelchair Sports Federation (IWAS) is a member of the International Paralympic Committee, the founder of the Paralympic movement and the Paralympic Games. The Federation has been developing adaptive sports in about 60 countries for more than 60 years.
