P. A. ROZHKOV TOOK PART IN THE MEETING HELD BY THE EUROPEAN PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE WITH THE COUNTRIES OF THE CENTRAL-EASTERN REGION IN THE VIDEO-CONFERENCE MODE
Chairman of the Executive Committee, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Vice-President of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Federation (IWAS) Pavel Rozhkov took part in the meeting held by the European Paralympic Committee with the countries of the Central-Eastern region in the video-conference mode.
The meeting was held by the President of the EPC, Terje Yentoft Ruhl.
The participants discussed the situation with Covid-19 in Europe, including its impact on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the preparation of national teams for the upcoming competitions and the Paralympics. The best practices for combating the spread of coronavirus infection in various countries were also discussed.
Pavel Rozhkov spoke about the measures taken by the Russian Paralympic Committee to combat the spread of Covid-19 among members of the Russian national teams, as well as the preparation of Russian athletes for the Games:
"To date, Russian athletes have won 136 quotas to participate in the Paralympic Games. This corresponds to 174 athletes in 13 sports. It is planned that Russian athletes will take part in 19 sports out of 22. The Russian Paralympic delegation can consist of up to 470 people, including up to 270 athletes.
Currently, national teams in Paralympic sports are centrally trained and participate in all-Russian and international competitions, taking into account compliance with the requirements of Rospotrebnadzor, the FMBA of Russia and the Ministry of Sports."
At the end of his speech, Pavel Rozhkov informed the participants of the meeting about the organization of the World Wheelchair and Amputee Games IWAS and the World Cup in Wheelchair Fencing in the period from 2 to 9 October 2022 in Sochi.
Competitions will be held in seven sports: fencing (World Cup), athletics, swimming, archery, table tennis, badminton, sitting volleyball (men, women). It is planned that up to 970 people will take part in the competition, including about 746 athletes and 224 officials from 40 countries. The Russian delegation consists of 274 people, including 211 athletes and 63 officials. The IWAS Games will include the IWAS General Assembly and the IWAS Executive Committee meeting.
