P.A. ROZHKOV IN VIDEO CONFERENCE HELD A MEETING WITH THE SENIOR COACH OF THE RUSSIAN PARA POWERLIFTING TEAM D.V. KRASILNIKOV
Chairperson of the Governing Board, First Vice-President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, chief of the mission of the Russian national team at the XVI Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo (Japan) Pavel Rozhkov held a video conference call with the senior coach of the Russian National Para Powerlifting team of persons with physical impairments, Honored Trainer of Russia Dmitry Krasilnikov.
During the meeting, the issues of preparation and selection of athletes of the Russian national powerlifting team for the sport of persons with physical impairments for the Paralympic Games Tokyo-2020 (Japan) were discussed.
In particular, the issues of participation in qualifying competitions for the Games-2020, training events, etc. were considered.
Powerlifting quotas for participation in the Paralympic Games will be allocated based on the international ranking as of June 27, 2021, and will be nominal for athletes.
According to the Paralympic ranking, 8 men and women will be selected in each of the 10 weight categories.
In addition, another 20 quotas for participation in the 2020 Games will be distributed by the method of two-way invitations.
In accordance with the qualification criteria to participate in the 2020 Games, an athlete must hold a valid IPC Powerlifting license, have an international classification with the status of "Confirmed" or "Revision" with a date later than December 31, 2021, meet the minimum qualification standard in competitions between May 25 2018 through June 27, 2021, and all requirements specified in the Powerlifting Qualification Handbook 2017-2020.
Eligibility requirements include compulsory participation in the 2017 World Championships or Championships in Mexico, the corresponding 2018 Continental Championships, the 2019 World Championships or Championships in Kazakhstan, and one of the IPC-sanctioned competitions between January 1 and April 23, 2020.
Until the end of the selection for the Paralympic Games, 3 more World Cup stages are planned in the sports calendar of World Para Powerlifting, in which athletes will be able to improve their international rating.
The next competition will take place in Bangkok (Thailand) from 5 to 9 May, followed by a stage in Tbilisi from 20 to 23 May. Qualification for the Paralympic Games will be completed by the competition in Dubai from June 19 to June 26.
The meeting was attended by the General Secretary of the RPC, the President of the All-Russian Sports Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments, 5-time champion of the Paralympic Games Andrei Strokin, the head of the Russian national powerlifting team Kirill Flegentov, and others.
