16 June 2022
Today Dzerzhinsk hosted the first Russian Open Youth Para Swimming Championship for the awards of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments. This is the first All-Russian competition for children and young people with disabilities.

In total, 117 athletes from 22 regions of the country participate in it.

The Secretary General of the Russian Paralympic Committee, five times Paralympic champion, the president of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments Andrey Strokin and the Deputy Mayor of Dzerzhinsk Olga Paleyeva took part in opening ceremony of the competition in the sports school of Olympic Reserve "Zarya".

The Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin and the President of Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov sent the official greetings to the athletes. "Swimming exercises have positive influence on the body, strengthen musculoskeletal apparatus, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. A competition is an effective tool for social adaptation and rehabilitation of children with disabilities. I wish all participants success and victories, and to organizers and guests - good mood from watching competitions! - Oleg Matytsin, the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation said.

According to Andrey Strokin, President of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments, Dzerzhinsk is a traditional venue of the largest competitions in our country in swimming for persons with disabilities, so it was decided to hold the first children's competition here. "For many years we only held the Russian Championship for adults and the Russian Championship for juniors. But when children master a sufficient level of skills, they also want to compete, to show themselves. Today's competition is a new and very important step for us, that's why we chose Dzerzhinsk out of all the possible venues. It has an experienced team of organizers, strong traditions of sports education of children with disabilities, well-developed accessible environment for children, and the city is conveniently located for participants from different regions. I wish all the athletes to perform with dignity, to show everything you know, and to win the cherished victory! - Andrey Strokin said.

"I would like to thank the organizers from Dzerzhinsk, our colleagues from the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments and the public company "Unified Gambling Regulator". Their joint work made it possible for the first time to organize and hold an all-Russian competition for the youngest swimmers," said Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

"Dzerzhinsk is surely becoming one of the leading cities in Paralympic sports development. Our Paralympic athletes are winning the competitions at the highest level and bring glory to the region and the country. Together with the Government of Nizhny Novgorod we create the most comfortable and accessible conditions for athletes with disabilities. Each athlete, who will enter the competition start, has his own success story. But all are united by a steel character, willpower and confidence that everything is possible if you want it. I wish all participants only positive emotions, the excitement of a fair fight, personal records and successful performances. Make friendships, communicate and come to us in Dzerzhinsk just to visit!" - said the mayor of Dzerzhinsk, Ivan Noskov.

During three days athletes will compete according to Paralympic program and demonstrate all styles of swimming at distances of 50 and 100 meters: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Winners and prizewinners in each distance will be awarded with medals and diplomas, all participants - with memorable prizes of the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments.
