DMITRY CHERNYSHENKO: MORE THAN 850 ATHLETES PLAN TO TAKE PART IN THE SUMMER PARALYMPIC GAMES "WE ARE TOGETHER. SPORT".
Summer Paralympic Games "We are together. Sports" are scheduled for more than 850 athletes from Russia, Belarus, Armenia and Turkmenistan. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Government Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Vice Prime Minister recalled that the Games will be held in Sochi from 2 to 9 October 2022. The sports program will include nine sports: athletics, swimming, table tennis, archery, para-taekwondo, wheelchair fencing, CP football, as well as draughts and chess.
"On the instructions of the President of Russia we create conditions to maintain the competitive activity of our athletes. The Summer Paralympic Games will be another large-scale competition, which will be held under the auspices of the movement "We are together. Sport." The popularity of the Winter Paralympic Games in Khanty-Mansiysk confirms their relevance, including the foreign teams. More than 850 athletes are planning to take part in the summer games in Sochi, including 150 sportsmen from Belarus, Armenia and Turkmenistan. Of course, cooperation in the organization of the participation of athletes from other countries - the SCO, BRICS and CIS", - said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Vice Prime Minister added that four federal training centers of the Ministry of Sport of Russia are involved in the preparation for the Games. All of them are adapted for training activities for athletes with disabilities and equipped with all necessary infrastructure and sports equipment.
"The slogan "We are together. Sport" has already become a firm symbol of justice and unity, of respect for one's opponents. We are all united by sport, which is a factor in strengthening inter-agency and intergovernmental ties. We all remember perfectly the festive and positive atmosphere of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and the high level of organization of the competitions, highly appreciated by the international sports community. I am sure that the Paralympic Games "We're Together. Sport" in Sochi will also be held in the atmosphere of a great sports holiday, "- said the Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin.
He added that all the training and competitive events of the unified calendar plan in adaptive sports are held in full. The Ministry of Sport, the Russian Paralympic Committee and sports federations on work with the disabled create all the conditions for the members of national teams of Paralympic kinds of sport to not lose competitive experience and competitive spirit and to continue active training.
The President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov emphasized that the RPC with full support of the Government of Russia, the Ministry of Sport and Administration of Krasnodar Region carries out the systematic work on the organization and preparation for the Summer Paralympic Games "We are together. Sport".
"Russia has a wealth of experience in hosting major international competitions among people with disabilities. In 2014 Sochi hosted the Winter Paralympic Games, and a year later the IWAS World Games. This year, Khanty-Mansiysk hosted the top-level Paralympic Winter Games "We're Together. Sport", which were organized in record time. In the current political conditions the RPC cooperates with the National Paralympic Committees of the friendly countries to make the competitions as competitive and representative as possible. This will help our athletes to regain their competitive experience and show their best results in the sports arena," said Pavel Rozhkov.
