AN EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR AND A MASTER CLASS IN GOALBALL WERE HELD IN KARELIA

On May 17 in Petrozavodsk (Republic of Karelia) an educational seminar for students of Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU) and a master class for students of the special (correctional) general education school No 23 were held.

The events were organized by the Karelian regional branch of the Federation of Sports for the Blind. They were attended by Maksim Dyakonov, the vice-president of the Federation of Sports for the Blind and Stepan Dyakonov, the president of the Karelian regional branch of the Federation of Sports for the Blind.

The seminar and master class were conducted by the Honored coach of Russia, Ilkam Nabiev, senior coach of the Russian national women's team in goalball of Blind Sports Federation and Alexey Baryaev, sports director of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA), referee of All-Russian and international categories.

During the seminar the participants learnt about the history of the development of goalball in Russia and in the world, the rules of the sport and the results achieved by the Russian national teams.

Then a master class was held.

Ilkam Nabiev demonstrated the techniques and types of throws in goalball, explained the correct positioning of players on the court during the game. Participants themselves familiarized themselves with the masks for goalball and balls.

Then the participants of the master classes were given the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge in practice by holding a simulated game.

At the end of the game a question and answer session was held. The students of the special remedial school were asked a lot of questions. They liked the game of goalball and they expressed a desire to continue practicing it.
