41 RUSSIAN RECORDS ESTABLISHED AT THE RUSSIAN PARA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP AMONG PI ATHLETES IN KRASNODAR
In the city of Krasnodar (Krasnodar Territory), the All-Russian Federation of Sports for Persons with Physical Impairments held the Russian Short Course Swimming Championship.
The championship starts from 1 to 5 March at the Olympic Swimming Training Center.
As a result of the competition, the athletes set 41 Russian records, exceeded 4 European records and 10 world records.
In the overall team classification, the first place took the Moscow team. The second place took representatives of the Altai Territory. The third place took the Saratov region.
The largest number of Russian records was set by Natalia Butkova from the Volgograd region. She has six new achievements on her account. Swimmers from the Samara region Yana Kostina and Ivan Tsyplenkov each set 5 new Russian records.
Senior coach of the Russian National Para Swimming team of sports of persons with Physical Impairments, Honored coach of Russia Yuri Nazarenko:
“The competitions were held at a high organizational and sports level. More than 200 athletes from 35 subjects took part in it.
The abundance of new records in Russia cannot but rejoice. This means that the sport is developing. The mass character and skill of the athletes are growing. Swimmers often break their own records, which they set a year earlier. I also associate a large number of records with the fact that in Russia short water swimming is a younger type of program than swimming in a 50-meter pool.
I would like to separately note that at the competition, ten world records and four European records were exceeded. Particularly encouraging is the fact that, along with the leaders of the Russian national team, young athletes also showed record seconds.
As a result of the Russian championship, the support swimmers were selected for the Russian national team for the European Open, which will be held from May 16 to 22 in Portugal. The upcoming European Championship will be the biggest start before the Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo. Its program includes all types that will be presented at the Games."
A complete list of new Russian record holders and the results of the competition are available on the website of the Russian Paralympic Committee in the "Protocols" section.
